Today, iO Coffee is sending you some brief and useful information about these two coffee varieties. These are also two popular types grown in Vietnam, and it is very encouraging that the quality of Vietnamese coffee is getting better and better.

1) Arabica:
In Vietnam, it is often called "Cà phê Chè". The Arabica coffee plant has a short trunk and small leaves, and the coffee fruit is oval-shaped with large, elongated beans.
Arabica coffee is a popular variety worldwide, accounting for more than 60% of the total coffee production in the world.
This is the first coffee variety that the French planted in our country.
Arabica beans are favored for their complex taste, sweet aftertaste, and tropical fruit and floral aroma.
The biological characteristics of Arabica coffee are suitable for regions with temperate climates with temperatures from 15-25 degrees Celsius, at elevations above 1000m.
2) Robusta:
Robusta is a coffee variety mainly grown in Vietnam. The export volume of Robusta in Vietnam is very large, accounting for 90% of the domestic production, making Vietnam one of the two leading countries in the world coffee export market.
Robusta coffee has a round shape with smaller beans than Arabica and a sweeter and more intense flavor.
Robusta coffee is usually grown in regions with elevations below 1000m, with a tropical climate, making Vietnam an excellent place for it.
ARABICA:
Seed shape: Oval shape, large and long seeds, wavy grain grooves.
Planting altitude: Over 1000m above sea level.
Climate: 15 - 24 degrees Celsius
Pest resistance: Low
Amount of Caffeine: 1.2%
Characteristic taste: high acidity and complex, sweet aftertaste, favoring tropical fruits and flowers.
Output: 60% of world coffee production.
Growing areas in Vietnam: Lam Dong, Quang Tri, Dien Bien, Son La,...
ROBUSTA:
Seed shape: Round shape, smaller grain size than Arabica, straight grain groove.
Planting altitude: Below 1000m above sea level.
Climate: 18 - 30 degrees Celsius
Pest resistance: High
Amount of Caffeine: 2.2%
Characteristic taste: Sweet and rich taste, favoring nuts, dark chocolate.
Output: 30% of world coffee production.
